Warrington Wolves face potential Matt Dufty setback after NRL coaching changes

Warrington Wolves' hopes of landing Matt Dufty have hit a snag following a chance of coach at his current club. The Wire are keen on signing the playmaker and have held talks with him in recent weeks.

However, hopes of concluding a deal imminently have been dashed following the departure of coach Trent Barrett, who resigned after their most recent defeat that left that bottom on the NRL ladder. That has seen former Catalans Dragons, St Helens and Bradford Bulls head coach Mick Potter take temporary charge as they seek a permanent replacement.

That, however, has left Dufty's future at Belmore unclear, with a change of coaching potentially resulting in a change to his status at the club. It appeared unlikely that Dufty would be offered a new contract but, as has been proven in the past, the next coach may have different ideas.

As such, it's unlikely that any deal will be wrapped up soon, though there is still a belief on both sides of the globe that Dufty will eventually sign a deal that will take him to the Halliwell Jones next season.

Rugby League Live revealed last week that Warrington had open talks with the player, who is thought to have grown fond of making the move to Super League to freshen up his career.

The Wolves will, however, most likely have to bide their time before being able to wrap up a deal.
