Wales World Cup dream still alive for flying Huddersfield Town star

Sorba Thomas breakthrough season continued with Sky awarding him man of the match for another excellent performance during Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Sheffield United.

Huddersfield Town put together one of the best 90 minutes of the season. But for several decisions not going their way could have taken all three points.

Thomas was very good on the day, Sky’s own match report explaining he had been given MOTM for “his darting runs, crosses and clever passes which gave Sheffield United plenty to think about.” One observer can’t fail to have been impressed.

Rob Page was spotted at the game watching the winger and after calling him up for the October international break and giving him his international debut, he will be pleased by his current form.

Wales have a huge fixture in March as they face Austria in the qualification semi-final for the 2022 World Cup. If they win that game they will then face either Scotland or Ukraine five days later in the final.

Thomas is surely in the reckoning for a place in the Welsh squad once more and likely a chance to add to his two caps. In a squad blessed with promising attacking players Town’s star has still stood out.

He still leads the Championship for crosses, is eighth in the league for total minutes played, and currently joint fourth for total assists. He’s also chipped in with three goals for his club in his 32 league appearances – quite the contribution already with just over a quarter of the season left to play.

In January when discussing the upcoming crunch knockout game after the Terriers’ 1-1 draw with Swansea, Thomas said “everyone is going to be hungry, especially in front of the home crowd. It's going to be an unbelievable place to be."
