Wales v Australia team announcement live updates as Warren Gatland makes huge calls

Warren Gatland is set to make some of the biggest calls of his illustrious career on Friday morning when he names his side to face Australia in a World Cup clash for the ages. After making a host of changes for Portugal, Gatland is expected to revert to the majority of the side which got Wales' World Cup campaign off to a flying start against Fiji.

One contentious decision could be the choice between Scarlets hooker Ryan Elias or co-captain Dewi Lake.

The New Zealander is expected to recall the likes of Dan Biggar, Liam Williams, Louis Rees-Zammit, Josh Adams, Gareth Davies, Nick Tompkins and George North, but there could still be some surprises.

Wales are also waiting on the fitness of Leicester Tigers openside Tommy Reffell and former England tighthead Henry Thomas, who have both been struggling with lower leg injuries. An announcement is expected late morning, as things stand.

According to reports, Eddie Jones is also expected to shake up his Australia side with Ben Donaldson set to move from full-back to outside-half in place of Carter Gordon, while powerful forwards Taniela Tupou and Will Skelton remain on the sidelines with injuries.

If Wales overcome Australia in Lyon, on Sunday then it will result in the former world champions being eliminated at the pool stages for the first time in their history. But if Wales were to lose, then they too could be up against it when it comes to reaching the last-eight of this competition. You can read the results Wales need here.
