W Series adds Singapore Grand Prix to racing calendar for first time

W Series has introduced the addition of Singapore to this year’s racing calendar for the first time in its history.

The Singapore Grand Prix will replace the previously scheduled October race weekend in Suzuka.

Unfortunately, the Suzuka Circuit has been taken off the itinerary due to unforeseeable operational challenges.

W Series will now make its debut at the Marina Bay Street Circuit between September 30th and October 2nd.

The newly added Singapore Grand Prix will be first ever W Series event held in Asia.

The Marina Bay Street Circuit was the inaugural night race and first Asian street circuit designed for Formula 1 races.

The first ever F1 Singapore Grand Prix was held in 1966. Native driver Lee Han Seng won the inaugural race on home soil, behind the wheel of the Lotus 22.

Since then, Mercedes and Ferrari have developed a competitive rivalry on this track and have tallied four wins each — the most of any other constructor.

Sebastien Vettel boasts the most driver wins on this track with five, while Lewis Hamilton is just behind him with four.

Singapore, here we come.
