Gary Neville directs anger at Man Utd owners as Brentford beat them for first time in 84 years

Gary Neville has directed his anger at Manchester United’s owners as Brentford beat the Red Devils for the first time in 84 years.

Former United defender Neville has been vocal in his criticisms of the Glazer family in the past and once again turned on the United owners as Brentford thrashed them 4-0 for their first victory over the club since February 1938.

United were abysmal in the match, with goalkeeper David de Gea taking blame for the defeat after two huge errors for the first two goals they conceded.

Former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves defended De Gea after his brutally honest post-match interview, and instead pointed the finger at outfield players.

But Neville has taken aim at United’s hierarchy, telling Sky Sports: ‘When the business is failing and not performing, it’s the owners of that business – it’s really that simple.

‘It’s failing miserably. We’ve now got a decrepit, rotting stadium that is now second rate. It was the best stadium in the world 20 years ago.

‘We’ve got a football project where they haven’t got a clue, they’ve put bankers in charge of the football club not making football decisions. They’ve not appointed a sporting director.

‘We can look at the players all you like, but there are that many big things that need to be put right first.

‘They’ve got to show up and basically face the music – now is the time. You can’t keep hiding in Tampa thinking nothing is going to come back to you.’

Neville tore into United in his half-time analysis, comparing themto an Under 9s team.
