Volleyball player Maxime Carolan wins award named after fellow Gravesend Grammar School high achiever AC Milan and England defender Fikayo Tomori

Youth international volleyball player Maxime Carolan is to receive a top award from his school.

He’s been selected as the winner of the Tomori Award at Gravesend Grammar School.

It’s named after and backed by AC Milan and England defender Fikayo Tomori, a former pupil at the school, and recognises Carolan’s achievements on and off the court.

He’ll be presented with the award in a ceremony on April 18.

“It’s the highest award for achievement at the school,” said mum Sophie Henry.

“It’s been created for the student who’s achieving high grades but also achieving highly outside of school. We were gobsmacked when we heard he’d won it.

“It’s such an honour to receive something like that and from such a highly reputable establishment as Gravesend Grammar School.”

Year 11 pupil Carolan, who’s sitting his GCSEs this summer, continues to shine on the volleyball court. He’s even been followed round by a cameraman for a video commissioned by Cascades Leisure Centre, where he trains.

The teenager has been filmed training, playing, working out at the gym and at school, and also provides the voiceover.

He’s just back from the Cornacchia World Cup in Italy where his Boswells under-19 team finished a creditable 14th in a high-class field.

And he has a National Grand Prix Platinum Cup final to look forward to, as part of the under-16 Boswells team competing at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering on April 20.

That’s followed by the start of the beach volleyball season.
