Celtic recently uploaded the statzone of midfielder David Turnbull from the SPFL in season 2021/22 to the club’s Twitter page, and it revealed some interesting statistics about the player.

The standout statistics are that he has a 89% passing accuracy, contributed 11 goals and assists and also made 75 key passes for the Bhoys. The former Motherwell man also made 111 recoveries, all in 25 appearances in the league for the Bhoys. 

That is a very impressive tally of statistics when you consider that Turnbull missed three months of action for the Bhoys with a hamstring injury he picked up in the Premier Sports Cup Final against Hibernian. Thankfully he is now fully fit, and he had a scoring end to the season, finding the back of the net in the last Premiership game of 2021/22 against his old club Motherwell.

Looking at those statistics, it is little wonder that Ange Postecoglou is such a big fan of Turnbull. The player was an ever present in the Hoops side up until his injury lay-off, and he ended the season back in the Celtic starting line-up.

The one statistic that stands out is the 11 goals and assists in the league, in just 25 appearances. That is a very impressive number for a midfielder, and it would have been even better had Turnbull not had to miss so much playing time in the middle of the season.

You have to think that Turnbull will be a regular in the Hoops team next season, as has already been stated, Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is a big fan of the player. There will be competition for places of course, but if Turnbull can keep up the level of performances he put in before his injury, he should start most games for the Bhoys.
