Vintage steam train will arrive for first time ever in Manchester Piccadilly Station - and here's when you can see it

A vintage steam locomotive is set to stop for the first time ever at Manchester Piccadilly Station today.

The LMS Jubilee Class Locomotive 45596 Bahamas will arrive at Manchester Piccadilly for the first time on Saturday 21, October hauling the Mancunian train from London, Euston. The engine will also pull in at Manchester Victoria station for the first time in almost 40-years.

On its route into Manchester, it will also run past its former base at the Stockport Edgeley engine sheds. The near 90-year old engine ended its days in 1968 at Stockport before moving to its home at the Dinting Railway Centre near Glossop. By the time the engine was withdrawn it had covered more than 1.4 million miles in service.

A final celebration was held in 1967 before the Stockport sheds closed with a line-up of Flying Scotsman, Oliver Cromwell, and Bahamas. Oliver Cromwell then hauled the last ever steam train under British Railways on the August 11, 1968 through Manchester Victoria.

Since the closure of the railway museum in 1990 the 45596 Bahamas now resides at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. In 2013 the Bahamas Locomotive Society (BLS) was given a £775,800 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund towards the cost of overhauling the vintage engine.

The Bahamas will arrive at Manchester Piccadilly just after 1pm and will then transfer to Manchester Victoria for a 4.13pm departure back to London, Euston. Bahamas Locomotive Society Chairman,
