Vincent Kompany gives Nottingham Forest transfer hope with key comments

New Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has admitted that 'good offers have been made' for attacker Maxwel Cornet this summer amid reported interest from Nottingham Forest.

Premier League rivals Everton and Newcastle United have also been credited with an interest and the former, in particular, has been heavily linked. The Ivory Coast international has a release clause in his contract, which is active in this transfer window following Burnley's relegation to the Championship.

The 25-year-old missed the club's pre-season friendly against Shrewsbury Town on Friday night after not travelling to Shropshire despite training at the Clarets' Gawthorpe Hall training ground earlier in the day. Our colleagues at Lancs Live report that Cornet is 'being given time to assess his options' by talking to his family about the future.

Despite not featuring in the 3-1, the forward was the talk of the post-match press conference nonetheless. "I don't know close it is, it is no secret there is a couple of clubs in for him and a couple of clubs have made good offers," said Kompany. "We have to prepare probably for a period after him and that is what we are doing. I am not saying Maxwel has gone, he has offers."

Forest yesterday said goodbye to Lewis Grabban after the striker opted against signing a new contract at the City Ground, which could heighten the need to add other options going forward. Joe Lolley has also reportedly been told to train with the club's under-23s, which would further deplete options in that area.
