Vince McMahon: Clarification on WWE Chairman’s role at WrestleMania 38

A new report has stated that Vince McMahon is still set to play a major role in the Pat McAfee and Austin Theory match at WrestleMania. 

It had been widely reported that McMahon was set for shock in-ring return for a WrestleMania match, ten years on from competing in any kind of match on WWE TV. Many believed that his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show was to set up an angle that would see McAfee battle the Chairman in Dallas next month. 

That angle never transpired and instead a match between McAfee and McMahon’s protégé Austin Theory was confirmed on Friday Night SmackDown, following Theory’s verbal attack on the former NFL star. 

However, speaking on The Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer has suggested that Vince will still have a major part to play in the storyline despite not being the actual competitor in the match. 

There was a creative change during the week in a sense in that angle that was just announced that Pat McAfee’s opponent is Austin Theory and there was the slap on SmackDown, that was a change from whatever the original plan was.”

Vince McMahon is still in the angle, I don’t know if it’s gonna be a handicap match, I don’t know if it’s gonna be Vince in the corner of Austin Theory but getting heavily involved in the angle and everything like that. Right now, Vince McMahon is the key to that match. The drawing of the match is Vince.”

“So, he will be introduced at some point, at least things as were last night. Things, obviously, continually change but it was still talked about. Originally it was going to be Vince and McAfee, but Austin Theory was gonna be all over the match and taking all the bumps. But now it’s ok this is what the real match is gonna be but Vince is somehow gonna have an involvement
