Victorian B&B and lakeside hotel named among top hotels in the UK in Tripadvisor awards

Three hotels and B&Bs in the Lake District have been named among the top places to stay in the country in Tripadvisor’s annual Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Hotel Awards. Celebrating the highest-rated hotels in the world, the awards look at which places have impressed their reviewers the most.

The winners were selected after analysing 12 months of review data for over 1.6million hotels listed on the site. There are nine categories for the awards: the definitive Top Hotels, as well as All-Inclusive, B&Bs and Inns, Family-Friendly, Luxury, Small and Boutique.

This year’s award saw the launch of three new subcategories: Pet-Friendly, Sustainable and Wellness. The awards look at both hotels world-wide and in the UK.

Although there were no winners from the North West, The Toulson Court in Scarborough was named best B&B and Inn in the UK, the only winner from the North of England. It was knocked off the top spot for the global list, which was topped by Voile Bleue in Mauritius.

Closer to home, Cedar Manor near Windermere ranked 10th for Luxury Hotels in the UK. Built in 1854 as a private country house retreat, the hotel offers luxury accommodation with stunning suites and double rooms all individually designed. It’s set in a mature walled garden giving it a private and secluded feel, but it’s only a short stroll away from Lake Windermere.

Fingal, a former Northern Lighthouse Board ship in Edinburgh, bagged the top spot while several hotels in London made up the top ten. Elsewhere Windermere Boutique Hotel came tenth in the Small and Boutique Hotels category - with Fingal once more in first place.
