Victor Gomes and Zakhele Siwela to fly SA's flag at the World Cup
Victor Gomes and Zakhele Siwela will be representing South Africa at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar later this year in their match-officiating capacities.
Gomes, who took charge of this year's tempestuous African Cup of Nations final between Senegal and Egypt, is one of 36 referees.
Siwela, who also adjudicated the final on the sidelines, is one of the 69 assistant referees.
The African contingent also consists of the controversial Senegalese referee Maguette Ndiaye, who is notorious for his dubious handling of South Africa's World Cup qualifier against Ghana in Cape Coast last year.
Zambian Janny Sikazwe, who attracted mire and mirth for ending a African Cup of Nations group game between Tunisia and Mali before the regulation 90 minutes was up, is also part of the refereeing contingent.
Gambia's crack referee Bakary Gassama, who handled Orlando Pirates's CAF Confederations Cup semi-final against Al Ahli Tripoli on Sunday, is also in the mix.
Significantly, there will be women who will be adjudicating at the men's soccer showpiece, with France's Stephanie Frappart, Rwanda's Salima Mukasanga and Yoshimi Yamashita of Japan being part of the refereeing group.
Neuza Back of Brazil, Karen Díaz Medina of Mexico and Kathryn Nesbitt of the United States form part of the 69 assistant referees who will run the touchlines in Qatar.
