Schumacher needs to get to Magnussen's level, says Haas boss Steiner
Haas boss Guenther Steiner says that Mick Schumacher needs to up his game and get to the performance level displayed by teammate Kevin Magnussen.
So far this season, Magnussen has scored points in three of the five races, while Schumacher is yet to pick up any points.
In the 2021 campaign, Schumacher outperformed fellow rookie Nikita Mazepin, who was replaced in 2022 by Magnussen. So far this season, the Danish driver has clearly had the edge over Schumacher.
Steiner feels the experienced Magnussen has been a great reference point for Schumacher, but now the German driver needs to up his game and be on a par with his Haas teammate.
The Haas boss was asked if he thought Schumacher had improved over the last five races; Steiner said: "I wouldn't know a big step over the winter.
"I think, [with] this year, he had a reference, and there was a reason why we took Kevin back. We know what he can do.
"Obviously, Kevin is a good driver, and for Mick now, he has got a reference, and he just needs to come up to that level," said Steiner.
"But he knows that, and he has got a good opportunity to do that.
He will take it at some stage, hopefully, sooner [rather] than later, because we would like him to score points as well, like many other people."
