'Very lucky' - NSWE sent message as Aston Villa's advantage over Manchester United & Arsenal revealed

Aston Villa supporters are delighted with the news that owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens have drastically reduced the club's losses and increased revenue, while remaining nearly debt free.

Villa published their accounts for the financial year ending on May 31, 2021, last month, and figures highlight a clear competitive advantage over some of the biggest football clubs in the division. Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. It is remarkable that while Villa's debt was as high as £190million in 2013, the club's debt is now dwarfed by many clubs in the English top-flight, according to football finance experts The Swiss Ramble.

NSWE's accounts show Villa only have £5million gross debt, all owed to group undertakings, which has been cut from £50million four years ago as Sawiris and Edens have repaid old loans. That's a big difference to many other clubs, with six other teams owing more than £200million. Sawiris and Edens share ambitions plans for Villa, with European football a main target in the coming years.

According to the Swiss Ramble, Tottenham owe £854million, Manchester United £530million, Everton £409million, Brighton £306million, Leicester City £288million and Arsenal £218million, with most of those gross debt figures coming from stadium and training ground redevelopments.

As a result, Villa have a competitive advantage against many other of their European-chasing rivals, who have to pay interest on their loans, for example Arsenal at £34million, Man Utd at £21million and Tottenham at £18million. And supporters commenting on these figures have messaged their support to the club's 'brilliant' owners.
