Simon Jordan responds to Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa transfer demands

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard cut a frustrated figure after Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Gerrard was annoyed at the manner of his side's third straight loss in the Premier League with Wolves two goals ahead before half-time and it should have been more. Since the middle of February Villa have gone on a two-match losing run, won three straight games and then lost three in a row.

Villa have not been able to keep up a consistent run of form all season and have seven games to go of the 2021-22 campaign though their next three games are against Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Leicester City. Gerrard spoke about signing new players again after the Wolves matches and he has regularly referenced the backing he can expect from owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens come the summer window.

Villa are expected to spend significantly again as they look to continue to bridge the gap between themselves and the teams going for European football. "I've got to fix it and I will fix it," Gerrard said.

"The players in the building have to help me fix it now, if not we will get players in who will help me fix it." Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan responded to Gerrard's calls for new players and the warning he has sent the ones he currently has in his squad.

Jordan was impressed with Gerrard's manner in his post-match press conference and defended him from criticism. "He hasn't made it player specific," Jordan said on radio station talkSPORT.

"In that game Wolves played like it was a derby and Villa something completely different. Don't forget, the defeat against Wolves earlier of the season probably started the decline of Dean Smith and ultimately the change of management there.
