Venky's have stuck to their Blackburn Rovers promise with Callum Brittain transfer breakthrough

It's been a long wait but Blackburn Rovers finally have their first summer signing.

Callum Brittain is the first player to join the Jon Dahl Tomasson era. After a lengthy wait for an incoming, Gregg Broughton must be delighted to get his first deal over the line.

The constant message from Rovers' head coach has been to separate the two departments. When pressed for a transfer update, he's reiterated that he is in charge of the team and the club must provide him with what he needs in the market.

It may have taken longer than everyone would have liked, the club included, but Broughton has delivered with a clever piece of business. Brittain arrives at the age of 24 with vast Championship experience at Barnsley.

He undoubtedly ticks a lot of boxes for Rovers. They desperately needed a specialist right-sided player after Ryan Nyambe's exit and Brittain's statistics would suggest he could be an upgrade in the final third.

It's not nailed down as to which formation Tomasson will prefer. Brittain offers the Danish head coach flexibility whether he opts for a back four or a three-man defence.

Undoubtedly, this needs to be the start for Rovers in the transfer market. A central midfielder is high on the agenda with reinforcements at centre-back desired too.
