Vale of Leven 6-0 Saltcoats Victoria - Vale off to a flying start

The Vale got their pre-season off to a flying start, putting six past Saltcoats at the Millburn.

Goals from Ross Cameron, Ethan Furze and Stuart Alexander had Brian Brown’s men 3-0 to the good after just half an hour.

Youngsters Cieryn Fisher and Lewis McMurray added gloss to the scoreline in the second-half, as they netted their first top team goals - with boss Brian Brown delighted with what he saw from his side.

The boss said: “After finishing last season off with a whimper it was important that we got it out the system and kicked off with a positive result and performance. And we got both of them.

“A lot of heads were down at the end of the season, we all let ourselves down a wee bit. So it was great to get off to a positive start.

“The guys have come back in excellent condition. Our fitness levels were superb and I could never fault the guys for that or for the effort they put in at training.

“Our squad are different from others in that they seem to enjoy the running and the harder stuff. “

And Brian has been delighted with the impact of U20s graduates Fisher, McMurray, Scott Lees and Dominic Burns since joining the first team fold.

He added: “The young boys have come up with the right attitude. They want to push into the first team. They are determined to be playing and that’s good for me, and good for the ones who have been there as well. It keeps them on their toes.”
