Jack MacKenzie on why Aberdeen FC shine was taken off first goal at Pittodrie in Dumbarton rout
Jack Mackenzie netted his first goal at Pittodrie and revealed his entire family missed his Aberdeen glory moment.
The defender’s early second-half strike finally broke Dumbarton’s stiff resistance and allowed Aberdeen to go on and hit them for six. MacKenzie’s family were on holiday and only his girlfriend was in the stand to witness his big moment. An Ester Sokler brace and first Dons’ goals for Peter Ambrose, James McGarry and Slobodan Rubezic then saw them top their League Cup group with maximum points.
It has been the perfect start for new boss Jimmy Thelin with four wins to reach the last 16. MacKenzie said: “It is my first senior goal at Pittodrie. I have taken my time. My girlfriend was in the stand but the rest of my family was away. It is the first game they have missed so they will be raging. Even at the stage of the game we were at, we needed that goal to kickstart our performance. Hopefully, I can add more this season.”
The left-back has been working on the attacking side of his game under first-team coach Peter Leven. He said: “It was something I worked hard on last season and it is something I have worked closely with Peter on.
“He has shown me a lot of clips in terms of the attacking side of the game. It is something I can build on and I want to kick on with goals. I have been working on things in training. It’s getting used to being in these positions.
“In games like these, we are going to have more of the ball. Having that impact going forward is important for the team and I’m delighted.”

But their patient approach to this
