Update issued over mystery woman's body found at Chorlton Water Park
Police are actively investigating lines of enquiry into the death and identity of a mystery woman whose body was found at Chorlton Water Park, an inquest opening has heard.
The unidentified woman was discovered by a dog walker in the River Mersey on March 21 of this year. Emergency services were called to the scene, where she was sadly pronounced dead.
Since then, significant efforts have been made to identify the woman, including DNA tests, public appeals, and even a facial reconstruction - but her identity still remains a mystery.
At an inquest opening at Manchester Coroner's Court on Wednesday (December 18), Coroner Zak Golombeck said Greater Manchester Police had 'requested' the inquest remain open while they pursue 'lines of enquiry'.
"There have been numerous attempts to identify the body of this female," he said. "There has been a forensic post mortem examination that was taken and that included DNA anthropology, but at present there is no identification.
"GMP have recently released facial reconstruction. There are lines of enquiry open. They have requested that we do not conclude the inquest so they can further consider those lines of enquiry."
Officers previously released pictures of items of clothing worn by the woman when she was found, including a lime green Primark top and New Look jeans.
The court heard the medical cause of death from the post mortem was unascertained, and the pathologist was unable to tell whether the woman died as a result of entering the water, or was already dead before she entered.
The inquest was adjourned to a later date to allow police to continue their enquiries.
