Update issued on man who cut his own throat before being tasered by cops

Police have issued an update after a man cut his own neck before being tasered by officers in a horrifying incident outside a library in Little Hulton.

At around 5pm on Wednesday police raced to Little Hulton District centre and discovered an ‘extremely agitated’ man with a blade to his neck self harming.

The man approached officers who disarmed him using a taser. First aid was given to the man by officers at the scene before paramedics arrived and took over. The man was then rushed to hospital.

In an update tonight (Friday) Greater Manchester Police said the man did not suffer any serious injuries. No further information has been released on the incident by the force.

Dramatic images from the scene showed first aid kits, evidence bags and blood splattered on the road. Police taped off an area of road next to Little Hulton Library following the incident.

On Thursday, GMP Salford published a post on Facebook to update residents on the incident.

The post said: “An update in relation to the incident that took place at Little Hulton District centre around 17.00 hrs on 12th June 2024.

“Police responded to an incident regards to a male near to Little Hulton Library, on locating the male he was extremely agitated and he had some sort of blade to his neck self harming.

“Officers quickly responded and were in possession of a taser in order to protect the male and other members of the public. However the male was determined and cut his own throat and approached the officers who disarmed him by the use of the taser to prevent further harm and to protect themselves and others.
