UK weather latest as Saharan plume set to sweep Britain and temperatures expected to spike

The UK is predicted to see another wave of warm temperatures and gorgeous sun by the end of the month.

This weekend saw Brits basking in surprisingly warm conditions, with sunshine gracing many parts of the country. While the sunny weather is predicted to briefly surrender to rain, it appears thermometers will soon be on the rise again. On Thursday, May 23, temperatures are set to spike once more.

Some regions could experience highs of 22C. The best of the weather is forecasted for the Midlands while the northeast of England and Yorkshire are also expected to enjoy these warmer conditions.

London is also expected to see temperatures peak at 22C, and Northern Ireland could even see highs of 23C. The Met Office has reported that, despite these changes, the UK will 'still feel warm', as the Express reports.

Over the previous weekend, London and Cambridge proved some of the warmest areas in the UK, with numerous people heading to local beaches and parks to make the most of the bright weather. However, there will also be showers this week, and flood warnings have been issued.

The Met Office has alerted to the potential for 'thundery showers' on Friday, May 17. Looking ahead to the period from Friday, May 17 to Sunday, May 26, the Met Office's long-range forecast suggested: "Changeable with showers developing by day across the UK through the end of the week and over the weekend."

"The heaviest showers and greatest risk of thunderstorms across southern parts. Temperatures generally around or just a little above average, though with winds tending to be light, still feeling warm in sunnier areas."
