The UK could see the 'worst snowstorm in 14 years' next week, with days of freezing weather and plummeting temperatures set to grip the country, according to forecasters.

Exacta Weather say snow is likely for next week after it fell over southern parts of the UK in recent days, with a Met Office yellow weather warning for ice issued.

However, the Met Office has instead refused to put an exact date on when the snow will fall and where, although the national weather agency does expect snow showers and 'winter weather hazards' from next week, the Mirror reports.

Exacta Weather forecaster James Madden has predicted the possibility of snow across the UK, and says the snow risk is greater than any year since 2010.

He told GB News: "Over the next few weeks, there will be a high chance of snow with the risk higher than the same period over the past few years or indeed, since the big freeze of 2010.

"It is likely we are about to start seeing images of vast regions of the nation covered in snow during a cold spell which is likely to hold out for an extended period. As well as the risk of snow, we will see harsh overnight frosts and the coldest temperatures dipping as low as -15C in the coldest parts of the country over the coming week."
