UFC 277: Derrick Lewis doesn't know who Sergei Pavlovich is
UFC fan favourite Derrick Lewis has revealed that he doesn’t really know who his UFC 277 opponent Sergei Pavlovich is.
For many years now Derrick Lewis has been viewed as one of the most entertaining fighters in the UFC, and potentially all of mixed martial arts. He’s the knockout king inside the cage, he’s hilarious in interviews, and what you see is what you get.
‘The Black Beast’ has fought for world titles and he’s beaten top guys with relative ease, but at the age of 37, many wonder how much longer he’s got left in the game – especially at this level.
This weekend, he’ll be returning to action for the first time since his KO loss to Tai Tuivasa when he battles rising prospect Sergei Pavlovich.
His last outing against a new contender, Chris Daukaus, saw him secure a resounding finish. This time around, he told reporters that he barely knows anything about his Russian foe.
“I ain’t know who he was [when offered the fight]. I still don’t know who he is,” Lewis said. “It really don’t matter. I’ve fought everyone. I fought guys that should be champions, and I fought guys that should be a reporter for MMA Junkie. I fought everyone. So it don’t matter. So I’m not the best fighter. I don’t go out there thinking I’m the best fighter, either. So it don’t matter.”
“I’m at a new camp now,” Lewis. “We’re just having fun. I’m enjoying the process of training. I used to not like even [be excited to train]. Now I try to get there early, at least one minute earlier than I usually do.”
At the age of 30, Sergei Pavlovich is pretty much a baby at the heavyweight level. He’s 15-1 in his pro career and while he may have been finished by Alistair Overeem in his UFC debut, Sergei has since rattled off three wins all via stoppage.
