Two men 'brought to safety' after police seal off area near river in Newport city centre
There was a large emergency service presence in Newport city centre this evening (Thursday, November 14) with a police cordon in place. There were several Gwent Police and South Wales Fire and Rescue officers in attendance at the river near Usk Way.

The incident has since ended. Gwent Police issued a statement at around 8pm saying: "We received two separate concern-for-safety reports – one at around 5.35pm and the other at around 5.55pm – near the River Usk in Newport on Thursday 14 November.
"Officers attended, alongside members of the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA). Two men were brought to safety and there were no reports of any injuries."
