Two men arrested after police find £20,000 in cash hidden inside parked car

Two men have been arrested after police found £20,000 in cash hidden inside a car in south Manchester.

Officers made the discovery after spotting a 'suspicious exchange' taking place in the vehicle while it was parked up in Balleratt Street, Levenshulme, on Friday (March 3).

After searching the vehicle, officers came across a plastic bag containing what is believed to be more than £20,000 in cash.

Two men, aged 26 and 28, were arrested on suspicion of money laundering offences. They were taken into custody for questioning, officers said in a post on the GMP Fallowfield, Withington, Levenshulme & Burnage Facebook page.

They added: "Officers from Operation Venture were deployed to Levenshulme this weekend (3 March 2023) conducting patrols to deter serious violence and knife crime.

"Whilst on patrol the officers spotted a suspicious exchange taking place in a vehicle parked on Balleratt Street in Manchester. The occupants of the vehicle were approached and searched under the misuse of drugs act.

"A further search of the vehicle led to the seizure of a plastic bag containing what is believed to be over £20,000 in cash, Two men aged 26 and 28 were arrested on suspicion of money laundering offences and taken into custody for questioning.

"Officers from Operation Venture are out every night working across districts. If you see our officers out and about you can speak to them about any concerns you might have. They regularly patrol crime hotspots and are engaging with communities to reduce crime and keep you safe."
