Two Manchester United youngsters will hope for dream debut vs Man City

Left-back

The biggest selection decision for Erik ten Hag ahead of his fifth Manchester derby as United manager is who plays at left-back, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both still out. It was Victor Lindelof against Fulham and Sofyan Amrabat against Nottingham Forest, but clearly, neither is a perfect solution.

Lindelof was needed at centre-back in midweek with Harry Maguire out and that might be the case again, although he could switch back to left-back with Jonny Evans coming in centrally. Playing Amrabat at full-back on a flank likely to be dominated by Phil Foden and Kyle Walker feels like a risk.

Injuries have been a nightmare for Ten Hag all season and this is the latest puzzle sent to test him. It's not an easy decision but Lindelof feels like the safer pair of hands, rather than playing Amrabat and having him drift into midfield, as he did at the City Ground.

Stop the shots

For the eighth game in a row, United allowed the opposition at least 15 shots on Wednesday night. They might have got away with such generosity against Nottingham Forest, but they won't do so against City.

City had 20 shots at Old Trafford in October and scored three goals, but an excellent performance from Andre Onana denied them more and it could easily have been another rout.

United have been too easy to play against all season and the midfield, in particular, has left wide-open spaces that have been exploited. Ten Hag must find a way to get the centre of the pitch locked down if he's to stop City from turning the United goal into a coconut shy at the Etihad.
