Two Manchester United players praised for role in Anthony Martial goal vs Wolves

Antony and Bruno Fernandes have been hailed for their involvement in Anthony Martial’s goal in Saturday’s match with Wolves.

The Frenchman grabbed his eighth goal of the season when he found the net on 32 minutes after Fernandes’ bursting run allowed Antony to draw out debutant goalkeeper Daniel Bentley and present Martial with an open goal.

United took on Wolves without top scorer Marcus Rashford, who missed the clash with a leg injury. The Reds looked slumberous in attack during the first-half but went into the break with a one-goal lead.

Former United attacker Dion Dublin noted Fernandes’ role in the goal, suggesting that more positive play from the front line would lead to further openings. He told Final Score: “Really good finish from Anthony Martial but it's great work from Bruno Fernandes in the number 10 role.

“United need to do more of that. They need to make the chances count.” Meanwhile, ex-Chelsea star Pat Nevin highlighted the impact from Antony, who missed a glorious chance to nod home two minutes earlier.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Antony did the right thing there. Where most attackers in on goal may have gone to shoot for themselves there, but he made the right call.

“He didn't go for goal, probably because he missed the earlier chances. Martial, who's had very little involvement so far, had had the biggest impact of all. He might be the story of the first half.”

That was Antony’s fifth assist of the season, and only his second in the Premier League all season, his previous set-up coming in the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest last month.
