Paul Scholes names Manchester United player who should replace Antony in FA Cup final

Paul Scholes says Jadon Sancho should be the man to start in place of Antony if the Brazilian is injured for the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

The 23-year-old looked in some distress following a tackle from Trevoh Chalobah in Thursday’s 4-1 win over Chelsea and had to be taken off by stretcher before the half-hour mark. Erik ten Hag confirmed after the game that the problem is “serious” with the trip to Wembley just nine days away.

The £85m signing, who will be assessed over the next 24 hours, has played 44 United games since his arrival, all but five being starts. His potential absence opens up a starting spot for one of his colleagues with several options available.

Scholes would wish to see Sancho fill the void after producing an assist for Anthony Martial’s first-half goal against Chelsea. Speaking of Antony’s injury, he told Premier League Productions: “You’ve got to play players and sometimes you just get a bit unlucky and he’s been unlucky tonight with Antony.

“But, he’s got some good players to come in. [Marcus] Rashford came off the bench tonight, I think Sancho is looking as good as he has looked all season.

“I’m a little bit sorry the season has got to end for him, he’s looking fit, he’s looking trim, he’s looking quick and he’s looking confident as well. So I think he could come into that final.”

Sancho has played ten times on the right wing this season - be that from the start or later on in a game - and has recorded two goals and an assist. His set-up for Martial means he now has nine goal contributions this season - six goals and three assists in 27 starts within 39 matches.
