Two M4 lane closures caused long delays

There were long delays on the M4 near Newport due to two separate obstructions. One lane was closed due to a broken down vehicle on the M4 Eastbound from J28 A48 (Tredegar Park) to J27 B4591 Glasllwch Crescent (Highcross) since just after 5pm.

Shortly afterwards two lanes were closed on the M4 Eastbound between J25 B4596 (Caerleon) and J24 A449 (Coldra) due to an obstruction on the road. Congestion is being reported to be building up to before J26.

Traffic built up quickly in rush hour and drivers are facing long delays. Due to the broken down vehicle, there is congestion up to J29, which is having a knock on effect onto northbound A48(M) back to the A48 Eastern Avenue.

AA Traffic Planner showed that there was heavy traffic on the A48(M) as far as St Mellons. The incident has now cleared.
