Truth on Huddersfield Town transfer update over highly-rated non-league defender

Promising Halifax Town centre-back Jesse Debrah is believed to be on Huddersfield Town’s transfer radar this summer but any claims that a move has already been agreed should be discarded.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon reports the centre-back will join Huddersfield this summer, with the Terriers planning to send Debrah back out on loan for the season to come. In fairness to Nixon, he does not explicitly claim that a deal has already been arranged at this stage.

Indeed, Halifax recently triggered a one-year extension on Debrah’s contract, which means a fee would need to be paid before he could move to the John Smith’s Stadium, and understands that no deal has been reached between the two clubs at this stage.

Debrah was a key player for Halifax in the second half of last season as they finished fourth in the National League to earn a play-off place, only to be defeated by Chesterfield in the quarter-finals.

Grimsby Town eventually earned promotion by beating Solihull Moors at Wembley, with another Huddersfield target – 6’9” striker Kyle Hudlin – scoring for the defeated midlands side.

Debrah and Hudlin both fit the kind of profile of player that Town would aim to bring through to Carlos Corberan’s first team over the longer term via a spell in the B team – a policy that paid off handsomely with their last non-league signing, Sorba Thomas.

Town have announced one summer signing for their first team in the shape of Cheltenham Town captain Will Boyle and are working to add attacking reinforcements to their first team before the window closes on 1st September.
