Tributes have been paid to a woman who was stabbed to death in east Manchester, who has been named locally as Alberta Obinim.

The 43-year-old died following a triple knife attack in Barnard Road, Gorton, last night (August 18). A 17-year-old girl and a 64-year-old man were seriously hurt and are in a critical condition in hospital.

Police have arrested a 22-year-old on suspicion of murder. Detectives say the suspect was 'known to the victims'.

Family friend Ibrahim Abu, also known as Obudo, led the tributes to Ms Obinim, a mum-of four. He told the Manchester Evening News she was a member of the city’s Ghanaian community and attended Blessed Baptist Temple church, which is based in Levenshulme.

“She was a very nice lady,” Mr Abu said. “I knew her very well. We all go to church together.

The 31-year-old, who did not give her name, said she worked with the woman, who was a care worker, at Chrysalis Care and the pair and did home care in the local area.

She added: “I worked with her quite often and everyone I spoke to at work is in shock. It doesn’t seem real.

“I want to let her family know she was loved. Her family probably don’t realise how much the
