Leicester murder investigation: Dog walker, 80, named as tributes pour in after young children arrested

An 80-year-old man allegedly killed by a group of young children in a park has been named by neighbours. Bhim Kohli, 80, was said to have been a devoted a father-of-three and grandad-of-two.

Leicestershire Police have launched a murder investigation after Mr Kohli died in hospital due to injuries he sustained in Franklin Park in Braunstone Town, Leicestershire, at around 6.30pm on Sunday, the Mirror reports. Officers have arrested a boy and a girl aged 14 and one boy and two girls aged 12 on suspicion of murder.

The attack is believed to have happened around 6.30pm, close to the park entrance in Bramble Way. It is reported the victim, who was walking his dog, was wearing a black jumper and grey jogging bottoms and was seriously assaulted by a group of young people.

They left the scene prior to emergency services arriving. Neighbour Deep Kaila told the Mirror: "I've known him for 35 years, we were good friends.

"His family are devastated. He was a skinny, fit man who was always at the allotment across the road from his house. He has two boys and a daughter, all grown up, and two grandsons.

"He had a factory in Leicester making jumpers and cardigans but retired many years ago. It's tragic what happened."

His wife was being comforted by sons Baul and Varinder and daughter Susan.

Det Insp Emma Matts, senior investigating officer for Leicestershire Police, said: "Sadly, following the death of the victim last night, this has now become a murder investigation. Officers are continuing to work at speed to establish the details of the attack and we have made a number of arrests as we continue to understand what has happened.
