'Tremendous' - Former Liverpool FC star raves about Manchester United ace Kobbie Mainoo

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy hailed Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo after his impressive performance in Sunday's 3-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park.

Handed his first-ever Premier League start, Mainoo excelled in the engine room alongside Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes, dictating proceedings. Brave and progressive on the ball, the youngster left almost everyone who watched the encounter in awe of his potential.

Despite only being 18-years-old, the United academy graduate did not look an inch out of place, producing a performance that a seasoned pro would have been proud of. As well as being forward-thinking in possession, he also helped out defensively, producing an outstanding goal-line clearance in the first half to deny Dwight McNeill a certain equaliser.

And his showing most certainly caught Murphy's eye, who insisted the youngster offered United what they had been lacking.

Murphy told BBC Sport: "Eighteen-years-old, playing in the holding midfield role and he did it effortlessly. His first touch in the game showed me how calm he was.

"What a player this lad looks. I haven't seen much of him, to be honest. This is his first touch. For me that goes in behind the Everton defence, but he pops it, gets it back and then pops it on the outside of his right foot.
