Huddersfield Town complete transfer move for former Millwall creator Connor Mahoney

Versatile attacking playmaker Connor Mahoney has arrived at Huddersfield Town as their third summer signing as a free agent following his release from Millwall.

The Terriers have signed Mahoney up to a two-year contract with the option of a further year, adding him to Cheltenham Town centre-back Will Boyle and Milton Keynes Dons midfielder David Kasumu on their list of transfer acquisitions ahead of the new season.

Capable of playing in a variety of wing, attacking midfield and forward roles, the 25-year-old has plenty of previous Championship experience from his spells at The Den, Birmingham City, Barnsley, and Blackburn, as well as having a stint with then-Premier League Bournemouth, where he made two FA Cup appearances.

Mahoney had fallen out of favour at Millwall over the past couple of seasons but offers Town an extra option in several positions and genuine two-footedness, as well as being reputed as a capable set piece taker.

Terriers head of football operations Leigh Bromby said: “Connor is a very interesting player that we’re excited to work with. He’s got very natural talent and his ability with both feet allows him to play through the middle or on either flank. That gives us important competition alongside the likes of Sorba Thomas, Duane Holmes and Josh Koroma among others.

“Connor also brings real ability at taking set-pieces, which was a fantastic source of goals for us last season. That further strengthens an area where Sorba already gives us great quality.

“His ability has seen him move around for some big fees already during his career, but his challenge now is to make Huddersfield Town his home and deliver consistently. Our staff will work very hard with him to give him every opportunity to do so.”
