Connor Mahoney admits he has point to prove after completing Huddersfield Town move

Huddersfield Town’s latest signing Connor Mahoney admits he has a point to prove after a tough couple of years at Millwall but believes Carlos Corberan is exactly the right head coach to get the best out of him.

The 25 year old was unable to break into the side after getting a Premier League move to Bournemouth in 2017, and has then struggled to get into Gary Rowett’s wingerless system over the past couple of seasons with the Millwall boss acknowledging that Mahoney had been ‘really unfortunate’ not to get more playing time.

But the opportunity is now there for the versatile Mahoney to impress Corberan in pre-season, with the left wing looking particularly lacking in a clear first choice at this stage of the summer transfer window.

Speaking to the club’s YouTube channel, Mahoney said: “I think I’ve got a lot of experience under my belt, but I’ve still got a lot to prove. Personally, for me, I want to get as high as I can, but there’s still a lot of room for improvement, and that’s why I chose Huddersfield.

“I think this club will get the best out of me. You’ve got to buy into the club. Training’s going to be difficult physically and mentally but I think that’s what you need. I think the head coach has shown that he gets the best out of players. He’s got players from non-league coming right up, obviously Sorba Thomas is playing for Wales. I think [Corberan] has proven he gets the best out of players, and that’s what I need at this moment in my career.”
