Transfer admission on 27-year-old made amid previous Burnley, Coventry City, Nottingham Forest interest
Birmingham City boss Lee Bowyer has admitted his side may cash in on defender Kristian Pedersen before Monday’s deadline with the club likely to lose him in the summer, speaking candidly to Birmingham Live.
The 27-year-old has been linked with a move away from St Andrew’s this month, with Burnley, Coventry City and Nottingham Forest all interested in a move for the left-back according to Football Insider.
The Guardian’s Will Unwin was quick to rule a Forest move out for the Dane and Coventry’s move for Jake Bidwell may have ended the Sky Blues’ reported interest in the Blues’ man – but a move to Sean Dyche’s side is yet to be ruled out.
His contract in the West Midlands expires in the summer – but Football League World understands the Blues are looking to offload some of their players this month and that could mean a move for Pedersen is on the cards.
He is yet to sign fresh terms at the club and manager Bowyer has all but conceded defeat in his quest to tie the 27-year-old down to a new deal, a blow for the second-tier side considering he has appeared as one of the first names on the teamsheet this season.
Bowyer has even gone as far as admitting that a departure could come earlier than the end of the campaign, saying: “Kristian is a good player so there’s going to be interest.
“Will he go? I don’t know. If the deal is right for the football club then it’s something we would have to consider because it looks like we’re going to lose him in the summer anyway.
“But if it isn’t right for the football club and it weakens us too much, then we won’t be letting him go.”
