Tragedy as woman killed with another seriously injured after car reverses into them

A woman was killed and a second left seriously injured after both were hit by a reversing car, police have said.

An investigation has now been launched into the tragedy, with police appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. No arrests have been made as yet, police confirmed as enquiries continued.

The tragedy happened in a small car park on Keepers Wood Way in Chorley, Lancashire, on Tuesday afternoon.

A 61-year-old woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, with a second woman left seriously injured.

Lancashire Police said on Wednesday she remains in hospital but no update on her condition was given and no age for her released either. The force said it was reported a Nissan Micra reversed out of a parking bay and collided with them. There have been no reports of any further injuries.

In a statement, the force said: "We are appealing for information following a collision in Chorley in which a woman sadly died and a second woman was seriously injured. The incident occurred at around 12.45pm yesterday (Tuesday, September 26th) in a small car park on Keepers Wood Way. It was reported that a Nissan Micra had reversed out of a parking space and collided with two pedestrians.

"A 61-year-old woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. A second woman was seriously injured and remains in hospital.

"Collision investigators attended and an investigation has now been launched. We are asking anyone with information, who saw the incident or has dashcam footage, to get in touch."
