The body of a man was found in woodland behind a car garage in Rochdale, police have said.

The death isn't believed to be suspicious and Greater Manchester Police today confirmed officers were working to confirm an identification.

No age for the man has been revealed either and investigations are continuing, the force said.

GMP said officers were first alerted to the tragedy off Mellor Street in the Spotland area of Rochdale at around 3.45pm on Friday afternoon.

The man's body was found in a small area of woodland behind Mellor Street garage, witnesses said.

The area backs on to the rear of a row of terraced houses on Bury Road and is near a small car park.

The Manchester Evening News understands a mechanic working at the garage found the body and raised the alarm.

Police sealed the area off and the man was recovered later.

It's understood a file of evidence will be passed on to a coroner's office once police investigations are complete and identification is established.

No further details have been revealed.
