Tottenham told to avoid Marcus Rashford transfer, with likely Conte plan tough on Man Utd star

Tottenham can do much better than sign Marcus Rashford this summer following links with the Manchester United striker, one pundit has said.

Rashford has fallen into a career lull in the past couple of seasons after bursting onto the scene in 2016. Last term was particularly tough for the 24-year-old, as it was for the whole club.

He decided to undergo shoulder surgery last summer which delayed his start to the campaign until October. And despite a fast start with an impressive performance at Leicester, he could not maintain it.

Rashford’s future has subsequently been called into question in recent weeks. The England international has a year left on his contract with a one-year option after that, but there is still uncertainty around his plans.

Tottenham have reportedly held talks with Rashford’s agent, although at this stage Spurs aren’t keen on a deal.

According to Frank McAvennie, there are better players for Tottenham out there to sign anyway. And the pundit admitted that the Man Utd man would only have a squad role if he moved to north London.

“He’s not better than [Harry] Kane or Son [Heung-min],” McAvennie told Football Insider.

“He has to leave Man United, that’s for sure. I hope for his sake he can get his head in the right place.
