Manchester United are striding into a brave new era under Erik ten Hag this summer.

After the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer project ran out of steam last season and Ralf Rangnick failed to pick up the pieces, the Red Devils are investing their faith in the former Ajax manager to return them to former glories.

It’s going to be an incredibly tough ask for Ten Hag as the Old Trafford club goes through something of a transitionary period with the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata all departing.

And although exciting moves for Frenkie de Jong, Jurrien Timber, Antony and more have been touted, United have hitherto failed to secure their first major signing ahead of the 2022/23 season.

And for all the outings and incomings touted at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ this summer, Ten Hag still won’t be able to achieve success in England if he doesn’t get the best out of United’s current crop.

There are plenty of players at Old Trafford who are right up there with the Premier League‘s finest, but simply haven’t shown their top-class ability over the last 12 months for whatever reason.

From Marcus Rashford to Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho to Bruno Fernandes, there is no shortage of ballers in the United dressing room that know they can do much better than what they managed in 2021/22.

And while we won’t truly know whether or not United’s strugglers will rediscover their form under Ten Hag until the season gets underway, there have been some promising early signs in pre-season.
