Tottenham step back from Christian Eriksen bid

Tottenham have stepped back from their bid for Christian Eriksen as they concentrate on other additions. 

The Dane has offers from Manchester United, Everton, Leicester, Brentford, West Ham and Ajax.

New United boss Erik ten Hag has made Eriksen one of his key transfer targets and the club have offered the 30-year-old a contract, which the player is considering.

The Times have reported Spurs have had no contact with Eriksen's camp for two weeks, with Brentford also in the dark over the Dane's future.

It had been thought that Eriksen was keen to remain in London having spent six months on loan at Brentford. He also enjoyed a successful stint at Spurs between 2013 and 2020.

But Spurs - who have already signed Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma, are now looking at other options, handing Ten Hag a boost in his pursuit of the player.

Eriksen made a major impact for Brentford after he joined in January on a short-term contract having recovered from the cardiac arrest that he suffered while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020 last year. 

He scored once and provided four assists in 11 appearances and earned praise for the high standard of his performances.

Ten Hag was impressed by Eriksen when he trained with Ajax last season to build up his fitness.

The Dutchman will still pursue a deal for his compatriot Frenkie de Jong even if United win the race to sign Eriksen.

Barcelona and United remain apart in their valuation of De Jong, who played under Ten Hag at Ajax and is seen as pivotal to the rebuild at Old Trafford.

United are coming under pressure from frustrated fans to make a signing in the transfer window after seeing several of their rivals strengthen with new additions.
