Tottenham's Harry Kane was forced to rewatch 'dive' vs Arsenal on live TV in 2019

Harry Kane has come under fire in the wake of winning a penalty for Tottenham Hotspur during the 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday night.

The England captain earned a penalty for Spurs that ultimately changed the direction of the Premier League clash, going to ground in the immediate aftermath of Jordan Pickford fumbling a tame shot from Matt Doherty.

However, there were many fans who thought that Kane made a mountain out of a molehill, hitting the deck far too easily and duly winning what they considered to be an unearned penalty in the process.

And while further replays surely showed that a spot-kick was indeed the correct decision, you can rest assured that Twitter was still awash with supporters accusing the Spurs star of 'diving'.

Ultimately, though, the match officials at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium didn't think that there was any cheating on Kane's behalf and happily awarded a penalty that the 29-year-old converted to put Spurs into the lead.

So, make of that what you will, but it nevertheless got us thinking about an incident involving Kane in a past north London derby that was far more egregious than this weekend's drama.

Truth be told, there's something of a social media narrative surrounding Kane that he's some sort of secret 'diving' expert who constantly gets away with murder because everyone apparently loves him.

And while the topic of unconscious biases in football is very much a conversation worth having, there's good reason to assert in most instances that the stereotype attached to Kane is mostly undeserved.
