Tottenham 'open' to signing 'world-class' £60m star at Hotspur Way

Tottenham Hotspur are open to signing Leicester City star James Maddison this summer but also likely have alternative targets, according transfer insider Dean Jones.

Antonio Conte has significantly bolstered his side this summer but there could still be more signings to be made ahead of transfer window closing on September 1.

Tottenham have acted with brutal efficiency in the transfer market this year. By the end of July, six new signings had been made with over £90 million spent on the likes of Richarlison, Yves Bissouma and Djed Spence.

This Saturday sees them get their Premier League campaign under way against Southampton in north London but with weeks remaining of the transfer window, there could still be more business done.

Conte has been reported to want more creativity in his midfield for 2022-23, with Maddison among the names to be linked with a transfer.

Newcastle United recently lodged a £35 million bid of their own for the 25-year-old which was swiftly rejected, with the Foxes holding out for £60 million.

But Tottenham are not ruling themselves out of the running just yet.

Jones understands that Maddison remains a target for Spurs this summer as the club look to strengthen as much as they can.

The transfer insider also suggests that interest in the Leicester man indicates that other top players are also being considered.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “If they’re looking at James Maddison, which they are open to, then there has to be a realistic chance that there are other players on the list too who are going to be top players.”

As things stand, the priority for Tottenham likely remains moving players who are surplus to requirements on.
