Tottenham news: Manchester United sent Antonio Conte message as defensive target 'identified'

Jonathan Woodgate has sent Manchester United a message about Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte ahead of the two sides meeting in their Premier League clash on Saturday.

Conte arrived at Spurs in November following Nuno Espirito Santo's short-lived reign as Tottenham boss, but had also been linked with the manager's job at Old Trafford.

United stuck with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the time before appointing Ralf Rangnick in an interim role until the end of the season.

And questions have been raised over that decision with United still struggling for results.

It comes as the Spurs boss opened up on his former club Chelsea being imposed with sanctions by the UK government.

And the club have reportedly identified a left-sided centre-back.

Here are latest Tottenham headlines.

Tottenham Hotspur could swoop for Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez in the summer transfer window, it has been claimed.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte is reportedly keen to bring in a new left-sided centre-back, and while Gomez is right-footed he would appear to fit the bill as he has turned out in the position on a number of occasions.

Gomez has failed to get into the Reds' first-team amid strong competition from the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate but was once seen as one of the brightest defensive prospects in Europe before a series of injuries derailed his progress.

And that could lead to a summer move away from Anfield – with Spurs reportedly ready to pounce for his signature.
