Tottenham latest news: Antonio Conte isn't Joe Rodon's biggest fan

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has concluded that Tottenham manager Antonio Conte simply doesn’t rate Joe Rodon.

The 6ft4 defender has started just twice during the Italian’s reign and has been continuously overlooked despite Spurs’ recent defensive problems.

Rodon’s situation at Tottenham is becoming a more painful one with every passing week. It’s got to the stage where it doesn’t appear to matter what happens on the pitch anymore, Conte will not select him.

Even after Davinson Sanchez’s horror show against Southampton, in which he was arguably at fault in some capacity for all three goals, Rodon was left on the bench against Wolves. As a result, his only minutes in the Premier League this season came back in September under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Since Conte replaced Nuno, Rodon has made just three appearances, starting the games against Mura and Morecambe, before coming off the bench against Brighton in the FA Cup.

Following another poor defensive showing in the defeat against Wolves, which saw Sanchez, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies line up in the back three, Football.London revealed that senior players in the squad have been fighting Rodon’s corner after Conte previously said that he’s Eric Dier’s back-up and only willingly to play him centrally.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It says to me that maybe Conte isn’t his biggest fan. Whereas for Wales, he’s been versatile, playing left-side and right-side.”

For whatever reason, Conte clearly doesn’t rate the Welshman. In eight games since Spurs beat Watford on New Year’s Day, they’ve failed to keep a single clean sheet, conceding 14 goals during that period.
