Tottenham latest news: Spurs could 'turn back to Pochettino' if Antonio Conte leaves

Transfer insider Dean Jones reckons that Tottenham could look to appoint Mauricio Pochettino if Antonio Conte quits as manager.

Conte’s future at the club was thrown into further doubt after he suggested that he might not be the right man for the job following Spurs’ 1-0 defeat at Burnley.

The last week or so have summed up Tottenham’s fortunes recently. Just four days after producing one of the standout results of the Premier League season by beating Manchester City, Conte’s side slipped to another damaging defeat in their race for the top four at Turf Moor.

Ben Mee’s late header bought Spurs back to reality and left them seven points behind Manchester United.

After calling the situation “unacceptable“, the Italian then said that needs to “talk to the club”.

Conte then questioned his own ability by saying that Tottenham hired him to improve their position but said “maybe I’m not so good to improve the situation”.

It’s not the first time that Conte has come out firing in a dramatic post-match press conference. He questioned the level of the club in his first weeks as manager following the embarrassing defeat in Mura.

Should Conte walk away in the coming weeks, Tottenham will be looking to appointment their fourth permanent manager in just over two years since Pochettino was sacked.

The Argentine was heavily linked with a return to North London prior to Nuno Espirito Santo’s arrival last summer and Jones reckons that if Conte does quit, the PSG boss could become an option.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Where do Tottenham turn if Conte was to walk away? Pochettino, potentially a guy they would be turning back to.”
