Tottenham 'know' £60m target will not sign new deal amid Hotspur Way links

Tottenham Hotspur ‘know’ Anthony Gordon is not on the verge of signing a new long-term contract with Everton and, as a result, a January move to Hotspur Way could be on the cards, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Spurs have gone into the international break sitting just one point off the Premier League’s summit, but head coach Antonio Conte will have the opportunity to bolster his squad when the transfer window reopens at the turn of the year.

Gordon has enjoyed a productive start to the season, scoring two goals in seven appearances, and Everton are keen to tie their academy product down to a new contract.

According to The Sun, the Toffees have opened talks with the winger and are willing to offer a deal which would see him earn six-times more than his current salary.

The report suggests Everton, who fended off bids from Chelsea during the summer transfer window as they valued the seven-cap England under-21 international at £60million, may have to agree to a £75million release clause in a bid to ward off January interest.

Gordon’s current contract, which is worth £10,000-per-week, is due to expire in the summer of 2025.

He has joined up with the England under-21 side for the current international break, having been selected by boss Lee Carsley, and is in line to face Italy and Germany.

Brown believes Everton have a tough task on their hands as they try to convince Gordon to commit his long-term future to the Merseyside club.

The journalist feels Tottenham and Chelsea, along with other suitors, will be looking to pounce if the 21-year-old impresses ahead of the transfer window reopening in January.
