Tottenham face summer transfer battle with Manchester United for La Liga star

Manchester United have revived their interest in Villarreal defender Pau Torres, according to reports. The Spaniard was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham last summer, but a transfer never materialised as the centre-back stayed with his home club.

The update comes ahead of a huge summer for Antonio Conte and his men. While the Italian’s first priority will be finishing in the top four with his current group of players, both he and Fabio Paritici will have one eye firmly on the upcoming transfer market.

Following the last transfer window in January, Conte made it clear that he would need to be backed in the summer at the club. “ For sure, to lose four players in January is not normal. We share the decision with the club and the players but it means that something wrong happened in the past," he said.

“For this reason, we have to pay more attention in the future when we go in the market about the choice of players. It becomes of fundamental importance if we want to reinforce the team, otherwise instead of reinforcing the team, you drop the quality.”

With Cristian Romero impressing on his loan from Atalanta, Conte could look to bring in another defender to complement his back three. One of those could be Pau Torres, given the club’s reported interest in him last summer.

However, if they do want to go in for the 25-year-old, they may have to face off against Premier League rivals Manchester United. The Manchester Evening News reports that United have revived their interest in the Spain international ahead of a rebuild this summer.
