Tottenham: Conte decision on 73-cap star 'would be big shock' at Hotspur Way

Tottenham‘s Harry Kane could start every Premier League and Champions League games in the weeks ahead, according to journalist Tom Barclay.

The 73-cap England international has started all eight fixtures this season, but Antonio Conte revealed last month that he would be rested at some stage due to the hectic schedule.

Ahead of Spurs’ trip to Nottingham Forest last month, which was meant to begin a run of seven games in 20 days, Conte said that it would be ‘impossible‘ for any of his players to start every match.

Ultimately, the passing of the Queen saw the visit to Manchester City postponed, which meant that Tottenham’s fixture list eased up slightly.

As a result, Eric Dier, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Kane started all six, although the schedule will ramp up once again next month, with the north London derby the first of 13 games before the World Cup starts in mid-November.

Despite Spurs playing once every three days for the best part of six weeks, plus the Nations League matches currently going on, Barclay would still be “shocked” to see Kane benched in any league or European fixture.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It’ll be interesting to see if Kane does ever get benched.

“I’m sure he won’t play in the Carabao Cup game against Nottingham Forest, but in the Premier League or Champions League I would be pretty shocked if he did unless he really was that tired.”

For possibly the very first time, Tottenham have the luxury of being able to put Kane on the bench and still have three quality forward players in the team, with Richarlison’s arrival immediately improving their squad depth.
