Tottenham: £18m star seen as 'future captain' at Hotspur Way

Antonio Conte “loves” Oliver Skipp and sees him as a future captain of Tottenham, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Skipp has enjoyed a highly-successful first full campaign in the first-team at Spurs and was recently rewarded with a new long-term contract.

Despite the £18m-rated midfielder’s season ending in disappointment with a pelvic injury forcing him to miss the final four months, Skipp already made his mark prior to his layoff.

As a result, he signed a new deal which will run until the summer of 2027 after establishing himself as a regular under Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte, making 28 appearances in all competitions.

Skipp, who’s been with the club since he was a five-year-old, was also rewarded with a significant increase in wages, with the former Norwich City loanee now set to earn around £80,000 per-week.

Despite his injury setback, Skipp will return in time for pre-season having undergone surgery on the issue in America.

Once he returns, the youngster will be hoping to re-establish himself in midfield, with Rodrigo Bentancur having taken his place in his absence.

But Jones reckons that Skipp is a massive part of the club moving forward and could one day go on to wear the armband.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Conte absolutely loves Skipp, hence the big new contract.

“This guy is seen as a future Spurs captain, so when we read about new targets in the transfer window, it’s also worth bearing in mind that this player is going to be a major part of any rebuild.”
